The first thing you'll notice upon arriving in Lefkada is the magnificent Castle of Agia Mavra. It's a very impressive fortress, estimated to have stood there for over 7 centuries. This unique landmark is built on an islet off the Acarnanian coast and is only 1 kilometer away from the town of Lefkada. Its architecture will connect you with its significant history, back when the ruler of Lefkada, Ioannis Orsini, constructed the castle with the aim of military defense. Inside the castle, there are ruins of barracks or public administrative buildings dating back to the Venetian era. It's an iconic attraction of the island and definitely worth a visit.

The Monastery of Faneromeni is one of the most significant religious attractions worth visiting in Lefkada. Its name comes from the icon of the Virgin Mary. According to tradition, the icon of the Virgin Mary was destroyed in a fire, but its form appeared on a plank of the temple. The Monastery of Faneromeni is believed to have been founded in 1634, and before its current reconstruction, it had been burned three times. However, it remains to this day a beloved point of religious worship, revered by the island's inhabitants.

There, you will have the opportunity to admire plane trees, caves, springs with stunning waters, ancient bridges, as well as all the flora and fauna hosted by Lefkada. Access to the Melissa Gorge is easy, and throughout the journey, you'll be accompanied by a spectacular torrent. 

There are three paths leading to the gorge. If you follow the sign that says "Cave Spring," you'll pass through a stone bridge and be led to the famous spring with its crystal-clear waters. If you choose "Apetasti'' or "Kako Lagkadi," you'll walk on paved roads with wooden fences. Throughout the "Apetasti," you'll encounter towering trees that cover the entire sky, and you'll enjoy the wonderful chirping of birds. In "Kako Lagkadi," you'll have the opportunity to see traditional watermills up close, wooden bridges, and of course, rich vegetation that will enchant you with its wild beauty.
